Set up & Synchronising your Mac, iPhone, iPad

Most of us now have several devices which connect to the outside world. Mac, smartphone (iPhone naturally), tablet (iPad of course) and expect our information to be seamlessly available from each one.

Most commonly this means that emails received on one also appear on the others. And that if an email is answered or deleted, all the devices reflect the change.

Although it appears simple in principle, in practice there can be a number of obstacles to overcome to make this work properly.

At MacXimise we are expert in understanding how you want your devices to work for you and then tailoring the configuration to suit your needs. Most common requirements for synchronising are for:

    • email
    • contacts
    • calendars
    • photos
    • music
    • podcasts
    • web favourites and website login details

When you buy a new device (Mac, iPhone, iPad) there are also a number of settings to configure and updates to perform. Some of these can be copied from your existing Mac if you have one or entered from details we help you to locate.

This is what is typically needed for a new installation:

    • Check your new Mac has all the latest Apple Software Updates
    • Check your internet connection is running properly
    • Set up new Time Machine back-up system
    • Transfer your data from existing computer or backup

    Test these settings

    • WiFi connection
    • Apple ID which is your link to software updates and iTunes purchases
    • iTunes
    • iCloud
    • Printing/scanning – depending on what you use
    • Home music and TV – e.g. Sonos, Apple TV
    • Synchronising with your other devices

Also, your old data will need to be copied onto your new Mac.
